A patient with pituitary adenoma may present with visual field defects, classically bitemporal hemianopsia.
Bitemporal hemianopsia most commonly occurs as a result of tumors located at the mid-optic chiasm.
Of a long list of possible symptoms, the most common presentations include : headaches, growth failure, and bitemporal hemianopsia.
The anatomy of this structure causes pressure on it to produce a defect in the temporal visual field on both sides, a condition called bitemporal hemianopsia.
Compression of the optic chiasm can lead to bitemporal hemianopsia, and, when there is no relevant trauma, this clinical finding is pathognomonic for a pituitary tumor.
